Man Shoots Lawyer As L.A. TV Crews Watch... Thank you, Matt Drudge!

I'd just like to say a few words about this story. I know, most of you have already formed an opinion based on the few words you've read. I would like to ask you not to rush to judgment. I mean, maybe the guy had a reason, you know? Just maybe he WAS having a bad day. This is not, in any way, to be taken as an endorsement of the wholesale shooting of attorneys. Even if maybe you think it's a good idea. I would like to give the so-called "perpetrator" the benefit of the doubt, however. I'm sure it's all very complicated, and not something that could be fathomed without a good lawyer....

PLUS two nifty articles from the Wall Street Journal Online:

King and Country
The Hashemite solution for Iraq.

The 90-Minute Hate
Was that a Democratic debate or a Republican campaign ad?
BY DOROTHY RABINOWITZ

Yet another take on the recent nasty-pants show in Detroit. In sales long ago, they taught us not to spend any time running down the competition. Working in Purchasing, I found that vendors who said snarky things about the others did poorly. The...and I am hesitating here between "jokers" and "bastards" and find that either term is too good for these professional dickheads...haven't gotten this yet. I'd be happy to see (and vote for) a Democrat who ran on the First Amendment and the Fourth too, but that would call for more integrity than any of the "candidates" have shown thus far.

Today brings us, (thanks to caped crusader Matt Drudge) news of an interview by Camille Paglia in Salon! If you're not a subscriber, you can watch a short ad (congrats on signing Visa, hey guys?) and get to it---and you should. Prof. Paglia is one of those folks you don't have to agree with to appreciate, here's a bite discussing Rush and his critics:

"Of course the newsmagazines never honestly covered Rush Limbaugh as a major force in American media and politics since the early '90s, but Newsweek finally put him on the cover for his drug scandal. That's fine -- it's breaking news -- but then shouldn't they have interviewed some longtime Rush fans who know the show? But who do they call? Maureen Dowd -- that catty, third-rate, wannabe sorority queen. She's such an empty vessel. One pleasure of reading the New York Times online is that I never have to see anything written by Maureen Dowd! I ignore her hypertext like spam for penis extenders."

It's not as good as an actual article, but it will have to do until we get one...

For those of you who wanted talking Ann Coulter dolls, try this link:

The Donald Rumsfeld dolls are the coolest, I've been assured...

“There’s nothing good about drug use. We know it. It destroys individuals. It destroys families. Drug use destroys societies. Drug use, some might say, is destroying this country. And we have laws against selling drugs, pushing drugs, using drugs, importing drugs. And the laws are good because we know what happens to people in societies and neighborhoods which become consumed by them. And so if people are violating the law by doing drugs, they ought to be accused and they ought to be convicted and they ought to be sent up. What this says to me is that too many whites are getting away with drug use. Too many whites are getting away with drug sales. Too many whites are getting away with trafficking in this stuff. The answer to this disparity is not to start letting people out of jail because we’re not putting others in jail who are breaking the law. The answer is to go out and find the ones who are getting away with it, convict them and send them up the river, too.”

Well, I guess HE changed HIS tune! Lots of talk in the blogosphere about how popping Goofballs will make you witty and famous. Where can I get some? Do I have to get a maid first? That might be fun...

Here's a piece by Andrew Sullivan in TNR about Kerry and Clark and some of the things they said during the recent Demo candidate debate in Detroit. I wish I'd have known about it in advance, just so I could have studiously avoided it. I met John Kerry about twenty years ago, very briefly, when he was shaking hands outside the polling place during his first campaign. It was raining and I remember wondering what he was doing---he was shaking hands with people leaving, not entering. (Apparently there was a law against campaigning close to a polling place, which I hadn't known about then) The cameras were rolling...and his Hair Was Perfect. Some things never change. When I read about Kerry's, uh, prevaricating or whatever the hell it is, it just reminds me of that day, and how sometimes first impressions are pretty damn accurate. As for Clark, when I read that this guy was first in his class at West Point, I imagine courts martial, and floggings, for whoever runs and teaches that once-proud institution.
