Lately all the right bloggers have been making fun of Jonathan Chait for telling everyone how much and why he hates George Bush in the pages of The New Republic. Some commentators have wailed about such hatred being a new thing, but that's not how I remember things. Now we get a tv show about Ronald Reagan that turns out to be bullshit dressed up as history...and as I recall, the left REALLY hated Reagan, who in his first campaign leaned on Thomas Jefferson in a big way. Smaller government was all the rage, just for a few minutes. I liked Uncle Ron; he was good to me personally. In fact, I campaigned for him on campus. Eric Lorey and I constituted the Anarchists for Reagan. Eric had the best t-shirt, only because he made it himself. We visited the Republican headquarters and got sacks of bumper stickers and buttons. The bumper stickers we modified slightly, so instead of "Reagan for Jobs" they said "Reagan for Fun".

The buttons were very strange. I don't know if I have one left, in all my flotsam and jetsam, but they said:
"Time is Now". Not "The Time Is Now", just "Time is Now". Of course Time is Also Then, as we Know Now. That's a blog for another day though....
